Markets Update Stock end Mixed as Volume Dips

At the bell, the NYSE composite was up 0.2%, the S&P 500 was up fractionally and the Nasdaq was down a fraction. Winners beat losers on the Nasdaq and NYSE, but not by much.
Volume fell 16% on the Nasdaq and 11% on the NYSE, according to preliminary data.
Computer gamers won the day's best gains with cable-satellite equipment makers and metal ores miners also moving higher. Travel-booking stocks forged ahead with the help of Priceline.com (PCLN) and Travelzoo (TZOO).
Solar stocks, already a suffering group, got pounded again. Data storage names and computer networkers backed off. Chipmakers and chip designers saw modest selling, as did a slew of retail groups.
