LONDON — As she headed to a meeting Friday with her Italian, Spanish and French counterparts, Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany faced mounting pressure to escalate efforts to save the eurofollowing a blunt statement Thursday night from the International Monetary Fund. Ms. Merkel is due to attend a mini-summit in Rome with leaders of the euro zone’s other big economies — François Hollande of France, Mariano Rajoy of Spain and Mario Monti of Italy — all of whom want new measures to combat a crisis which shows no signs of abating after more than two and a half years.... Continue to read.
